Power Leap 1.2ghz Celeron

bunker

Lifer
Would it be worth it for me to upgrade my PIII600E using the 1.2ghz Celeron (Tualatin)?? I'm noticing some of the newer games not running as fast as they probably could (level loading etc...)

Rest of my machine:
Hercules 6400 Kyro II 64mb
512mb pc133 ram
WD 30gb 7200 rpm ata100 drive (on an ATA 66 controller)
Intel 440BX Motherboard (yes, it's a dell)

And getting a new mb/processor isn't in the cards....Case and power supply would also have to be replaced because of proprietary stuff in the Dell case.

Think I'll notice much of a difference?

You should look at some benchmarks - just search the web. You will most likely be able to overclock that 1.2 GHz by 20% or so, so there is an additional benefit.. I needed a benchmark of P2-300 vs. Cyrix 166PR, and found it in 2 mins on Google.com

The only benchmarks I found was where someone compared this powerleap adapter with their original PIII 850. They gained almost 10 fps in games 9 (the benchmark I'm interested in). In whetstone and drystone benchmarks it was comparable to a 1.4ghz Athlon.

I figured I'd be doubling my current mhz (I know not everything is mhz!) and it certainly couldn't hurt.

*edit - typo

P3 vs Duron vs Celery vs more

You'll be mostly interested in P3-1.2 GHz vs. Celery 1.2 GHz, of course (on the bottom of the charts 🙂)
(Nothing interesting before this page. Check out the next pages, too, for more benches).

Anyway, this is probably not the best benchmark because the P3 is not the one you have..

<< Yeah, but it's a Dell.........Not sure if the Powerleap will work on it.......

It's listed on their site as working with my machine.
