I have an interesting situation with my computer where the refigerator in the other room starts its cooling process - it engages with a hum - then their is slight static in my speakers and I cant move my mouse and programs freeze up - The refrigerator in the other room stops the cooling and my system returns to normal
Ideas as to what is happening ?

Need to find out if it is voltage or noise. Voltage is easy, check the voltage at the wall outlet with a meter when the compressor is on. If the voltage is OK but the problem still continues then you got a noise problem. Noise can be tricky because a ups may or may not stop it just depends on how that ups is designed and how much noise .

When buying a product to remove noise you need to be sure it list the db amount it removes. That one is 70db. If it doesn't list the amount then I wouldn't buy it as it probably has poor noise removal.
 
It may be a ground loop. Those are hard to fix. I'd suggest rewiring your house with copper wiring.

For a problem that sounds like that, I don't think any equipment will help. I'm pretty sure it's a wiring problem in your house.
 
Great responses here. Just wanted to add my scenario for you, we have power problems here as soon as the weather gets above 84f outside. I have narrowed it down to a bad transformer in our area. Anyhow, to skip the long winded reply I could leave, I use a Tripp-Lite Line Conditioner for my electronics. Without a line conditioner my speakers would hum etc lots of bad stuff.

So in essence I would say 2 things as to your problem, 1 take a voltage reading with the fridge on and when off, 2 check your psu for output voltages at a molex with a DMM,(voltage tester), with the fridge on and off again. Sounds like bad power into the home but may be something simple as a failing PSU.
