Power icon in systray is gone and wont come back!

A while ago, the power icon in the systray disappeared and I can't bring it back! I go into the power settings on the control panel and clear the checkbox that makes the icon appear on the systray, hit apply..then check it again and hit apply..no luck..i even tried rebooting and it didn't work

anyone have a similar situation?
 
I've run into this exact same issue with my compaq laptop. The power icon just vanished. You can still get to the settings by going through the control panel, but the tray icon is gone. I did some searching on google and found a solution (it involved deleting a few registry keys), but I don't remember off-hand what the specifics were.....

I tried "power icon systray disappear" "power icon system tray disappear" and various others
