Ok so I checked the power usage for the system I have and my 430 Watt psu should be more then enough.

I got this power connector with my new 8800GT

As far as I can tell the 2 molex type connectors are the same, so I assume that I need to plug 2 molex connectors into this power cable that came with it?

I also bought molex Y adapters because I did not have enough, can I plug a Y adapter into one of my power cables and then plug both ends of the Y into that adapter that came with my 8800GT?

Here is a picture of the Y adapters I bought

Or do I need to plug in both molex power adapters even? Or if I just plug one in would that be enough?

If you need clarification please let me know.

you can plug a SINGLE molex to that thing and it will work... the resaon it has two plugs is because you are supposed to plug two molex connectors from seperate rails. (ie, look for molex plugs that are NOT daisy chained together).
The idea is that it draws too much power to be safely taken through a single molex, unless it was over engineered to begin with.

So using the Y adapter is completely pointless.

Ok, so you can plug a single in but it's better to have 2 molexes plugged in from 2 separate rails?

Is that correct?

Thanks for your reply.

yap, you got it.

Ideally you would have a power supply with a pcie power connector (that black 6 pin connector) and use it instead of the adapters.

Thanks for the info.

Too bad my stupid motherboard is too old to work with the 8800GT.

Oh well, I'm going to get an intel quad core soon. :)
