Power fan problem - Antec 430 & Winbond HD

Hi Everybody,
First post here so please bear with me. Getting a constant 11000-12000 RPM from Winbond hardware doctor, ver 2.70. Mobo is a Abit NF7-S V2. Anybody come across this before?.

Another thing is that I have a 2600+ Mobile XP outfitted with a SLK-947U from Newegg. Well, I installed everything and the rig's been up for 5 months now. The heatsink with a tornado 92mm are a real tight. One end of the clip, which goes over the side of the fan is real hard to get back on. I heard that you need a Neo backplate assembly, but I never ordered that, so I'm probably using the default one. Has anyone else installed it and having such space constraints.?

thanks.

impossible. its just a bad reading. ur fan would probably disentegrate at that speed lol🙂 and u 'd notice the noise...

Update BIOS, otherwise, I have had those problems, except i get readings like this: 1503928 rpm. This occurs when you bring a fan below 1600rpm. Perhaps your PSU fan is spinning slow, or you have a rheobus that is controlling fans to less than 1600rpm?

Also, I dont know what the purpose of hte neoplate is. I use the SLK947U with 92mm panaflo on my ABIT NF7-S ver2.0. I had to mill off the knubs on the black "thing" that sits on top of the mobo. I just used the backplate that the heatsink came with. I looked at the neoplate from a website picture, and it looked very similar or the same to the backplate that came with my SLK947U...

I've also got an NF7-S rev2.0 with a 430W Truepower. It usually reads about 1500rpm, but sometimes it jumps to either 0, or somewhere around 350,000rpms. Curiously enough, I've got another Truepower 430 on a rev1.2 NF7-S. No problems at all with that system.
No idea when or if there will be a BIOS update to fix this problem.

I think i read on one of ABIT's forums that it cannot be fixed. The Winbond chip has a 1500rpm low limit. Any lower, and it gives a goof reading.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I dont have any controller for any of the fans. I updated the bios to the latest revision. Problem is still there. But I think you guys were right about the haywire display when the fan spins slow, cause I get these readings only when the cpu temps go below 40's.

Tiamat, about the SLK947U, this is going to sound stupid, but there is only one way to fit the heatsink right ? What I mean is that, would it be possible to fit your heatsink, if you rotated it 90 degrees ? Right now, the longer sides of the heatsink are vertical in the mid tower case (Kingwin KT-11, if it helps). Is this how you have it too.?

Hehe, I asked that exact question as well when i first installed it! Almost exact wording!

There is only one way to install it. You cant force it to go 90degrees off of what it is now because the holes in the motherboard are in a rectangular position. Yes, the longer sides of my heatsink are vertical. In fact, it almost touches my PSU. I had to remove the fan grill for my PSU fan because the 92mm fan clip interferes with it.

Thanks Tiamat, this thing has been on my mind from the time I set the rig up.

Another thing guys,
been oc'ing the rig for the last few weeks and the temps are pretty high for a Mobile 2600+. I hit 42's ( highest 43.5) pretty easy running Prime 95 or Doom3 and 40 idle. If the keep the case open, it hits 40 stressed and 37 idle.

2170 @ 1.525 V
217 Mhz FSB
42 stressed / 38 idle

2009 @ 1.5 V
200 Mhz FSB
40 stressed / 37 idle

But these are with the case open. With the case closed, its about 2-3 degrees more on everything, including idle. Is this normal, to hit such temps even at speeds close to stock speeds? Or do I need to upgrade the cooling setup? Running on stock three 80mm case fans with a lot of wires just hanging about.
