My XP is corrupted due to power failure. I boot it with the XP cd and go to repair option and now I'm in the command prompt. I try to backup my data before the letting the cd repairs my XP automatically because I afraid my data might gone after that.

However, I receive "Access denied" whenever I tried to access my folder in C drive. I use the command "cd folder_name". What's wrong?

Besides, what is the best way to recover my system (XP) without data lost?

Thanks

I think you have to enter your administrator password to do anything in the repair console. Either that or your HD is inaccessable and you would have to reformat =\.

The recovery console will only allow you to access %systemroot% (and its subfolders) and the root folder of each drive. You can't go anywhere else.

You can, however, do a chkdsk from recovery console that will likely get you back up and running.

You need to type LOGON in the Recov console. This will allow you to enter the Admin Password. Then you will be able to get to your other dir's on the drive.
