Power Efficiency of people?

For X amount of work people do, and X amount of work machines do, which technically uses 'more energy'? Also on the subject, people walking in 72* weather, what is the MPG rating for people?

People use more energy because of the calories the body uses for just staying alive. I don't know what you mean by MPG.

MPG, Gallons of water needed for every mile walked.

We don't burn water.... How about Kiljouls per mile, or Moles Glucose per mile?

Hmm, well, let's pull up a few figures.
First website gives me ~300 Cal/hour for walking at a 4mph pace.
That's in addition to the ~2000 Cal/day basal metabolism, but we'll ignore that for now.
Gasoline has an energy content of approximately 31,000 Cal/gallon.

So we get about 400mpg, assuming we can digest gasoline.

i heard friday from my electronics II teacher that people were 82% efficient, compared to the 75% of our power transistor we're studying.
