I am running PowerDVD 4.0 on XP Home Edition on my Athlon rig (see below) with no problems. Sounds like an install problem with PowerDVD. If you just used the latest update to patch your previously installed version of PowerDVD, the original install may be bad. Try completing removing PowerDVD and reinstall from scratch.

Works perfectly for me. PowerDVD 4.0 XP, Windows XP Pro, AthlonXP 2000+, GF3.

It also happens to me 3 out of 5 times running PowerDVD4.0 under WinXP Pro. Take a look at the Tast Manager when that happens, and see if TM says PowerDVD is "Unresponding". Also see if the harddriver indicator light on the case is continuously on.

WinDVD wouldn't even work at all under XP for me.
