Power DVD hardware acceleration

My old ti4200 ran power dvd with hardware acceleration just fine...then I got a 9700 pro and hardware accel. would crash and restart my computer. It would work without the accel. fine though. I downloaded a "patch" from the powerdvd website and now it runs without hardware acceleration enabled whether or not the checkbox is checked. Seems the patch just turns off acceleration for ati cards? Is anyone using a 9700/9800 and power dvd with working video hardware acceleration? If so what version of p. dvd and what video driver version? I've tried the patched and non-patched versions of power dvd 4 and 5 with no success.

It may be due to confliciting overlay settings or priority or such (betwixt those in later versions of PDVD and ATI's Overlay tab). Try enabling and starting playback before turning on TVO.

Thanks for the reply but I must admit I don't fully understand what you're talking about...
What do I enable and what is TVO? Where can I find these settings to change? thanx!!

Enabling referred to PDVD hardware accelleration checkbox. TVO is TV Out. But if you are not using it and yet there is still no acceleration just for playback on a single monitor then I don't know what the solution is.
