I Have an Asus v7100 geforce2 mx video card. I have power dvd 2000 that came with my toshiba dvd rom and the asus dvd player that came with my vid card. I would like to know if anyone has an opinion on which of these will provide the better dvd playback.
I just changed from an ati all in wonder 128 and im stunned at the image quality ive loast when playing dvd's without that ati hardware acceleration.

Also does anyone have any suggestions for setting with either of these dvd players to optimize the quality? my system is plenty quick to handle anything i throw at it.

Thanx,

Dude!

Your not going to like this but...a portion of that image quality is gone for good. Both PowerDVD and AsusDVD suck. AsusDVD doen't even make effective use of the Geforce2's cosine transform hardware acceleration features. I'd buy WinDVD; it's proabably the best software and uses the hardware acceleration available on Geforce2. DVD's look pretty good on my friend's laptop with WinDVD.

I think asusdvd is powerdvd. I had the v7100 also, and somehow ended up with a shortcut to power dvd 2000 on my desktop :p

Any yes, it does suck.

I have a 32 Mb radeon AIW now and the dvd player on that is 10000000 times better.

Yeah, AsusDVD is a branded version of WinDVD. PowerDVD 3 is the best decoder/player available for quality and features. The reason the image quality is poor is because the ATI card's quality is superior to NVIDIA's. If video is important to you, you want an ATI or S3 card. It is that simple. 3dfx, for those scoring at home and who have not read any one of my numerous posts on this subject, is even worse than NVIDIA for video quality and features. does anyone know why windvd2000 might be freezing up when i insert a dvd in the drive? if i put the dvd in the drive and then open windvd, it doesn't do so as often. also, it often freezes up when i try to close it after watching a movie... anyone had these symptoms occuring? anything i should be looking at?
