Is there any sense in trying to install this 256MB Radeon 9800Pro on a rig w/ a 220W Power Supply? what will happen if I install it and there's not enough power? any damage to the supply, video card or anything else?
any advice at all would be helpful as I have a friend who can probably use it if I can't.
Thanks

If you only have one hdd and one optical drive in the machine it might be worth a shot if it's a decent power supply. ATI recommends a 300W radeon 9800pro specs. Not enough juice will not cause any damage.

9800PRO is VERY low power. I run it fine, no hiccups with 1 optical, 1 hdd, an AMD64 and a gig of ram. My 9800pro is flashed and oced. even oced, xbit did a test on it and it runs at 0.7A on the +12V rail.

For most purposes, having low power isn't really that bad, except that when it comes to really intensive graphics (aka, gunfights in a game), then your video card might crash...

it happened to me when I forgot to plug in the power mole...

8.4 Watts? Somehow I doubt that...

I measured my 9500 PRO idle vs. load and the numbers (for whole PC) were 120W vs. 170W with a Kill-A-Watt meter.
