Power Cold Cathode through external 12V PS?

Quick question: I want to decorate my room with 12" cold cathodes that are normally used for computer mods. The thing is I don't want to have my computer on the whole time.

I saw that the inverters run on 12 volts. So, would I be able to use a normal 12V wall transformer to power the cathodes? I have one 1.2 A 12V transformer that I hope will work.

Yes, there's nothing especially magical about the 12 V output of a computer power supply; a wall-wart type adapter can also do the job. A few things to double-check:

1. That the adapter's output is DC, not AC.
2. That the adapter is regulated (if not, voltage can stray upwards quite a bit, which the CCFLs' inverters may or mat not be able to handle).
3. That the adapter is rated for a high enough output current (doesn't sound like it should be an issue).
