power button = nothing

Homerboy

Buddy has a PC that when you hit the power button, nothing happens. Nothing at all. No fans. No power to anything.
Swapped out the PSU. Still nothing.

Motherboard toast?
Just a bad "power switch" maybe? Sadly this is an e-machine hunk, and 90% of the case is riveted shut.

Amazingly, I;ve never run into such a problem before.

Any suggestions?

Try shorting the two power pins on the mobo where the switch plugs into. That'll let you know if the button is toast.

I have the same problem.

I am bulding a PC. I have a brand new mobo, cpu, and case.
I installed the mobo, cpu, heatsinc, and fan.
I connected the 20pin and 4pin power connections to the mobo.
I connected the cpu fan and a second fan. A third fan connections on the mobo isn't being used.
The PSU is on 115 volts.
I turn on the PSU and a green light comes on the mobo.

When I hit the power switch, nothing happens. I even tried using a power switch from a computer that I know should work and still nothing.

Please help!!! Thanks.

I think it is best to install it in the case for the purpose of earthing it, or at least earthing the case.

Its only 4 screws
