Power Adapter for LCD monitor..Help

I just got a Cornea 17" M17AB LCD. The power adapter seems to be bad. Everytime I move or touch the adapter the monitor just shuts off. The adapters output is rated at 12v and 3.3 amps. 40 watt max.

Now I called the Cornea and they want me to ship that whole monitor back. They just don't replace adapters.

My question is...Can I just buy a laptop power adapter that's rated exactly the same and has the same type of connecter and be safe using it? I can get one used for $10.
