power adapter for laptop

new T400 has a 65w 20v power adapter that comes with it but I want a 2nd one. It's got a 9cell battery (the one that sticks out) if it matters. Ebay has ones that are 90w 20v. It states it's compatible with the t400 among others. It will probably work right? But why the extra wattage? Would it be fine, except that it consumes more electricity to do the same job?

That wattage rating is not what it will expend, but what load it is capable of. Your T400 will be within limits and most likely will not exceed 65 watts.

I have a T60, and a second A/C adapter for travel. I would suggest the Lenovo travel kit - it includes adapters, etc. for airline and auto connectors. I keep it in my travel case.

I assume the T400 still uses the fat and sturdy connector? That would be a plus if I decide to get a T400 as my next road machine.

Volts are volts! Don't worry about the amps. Amps equal volts, expressed in a slightly different way - that's all.

We bought a lappy (Compaq) a while back that didn't come with an AC adapter, but...

We found a AC adapter for a HP printer languishing in the closet that had the same voltage - been running it for 2 years without incident.

If you want to be a cheap bastard (like me) check out some Goodwill / Savers / Salvation Army centers. You can probably find an appropriate PS for $7.99... 😉
