Subject: Powdered mailings
Date: Fri, 27 Jun 2003 15:56:30 -0500
As reported at the BT Summit this week, the Alliant Energey, Cedar Rapids,
Iowa, recently sent a commercial mailing consisting of sixteen hundred
letters each containing a packet of Tylenol. In at least one case so far,
the Tylenol packets were crushed, causing a white powder to spill from the
envelope upon opening and resulting in the evacuation of a commercial
establishment in Chicago.
The letters are described as a "business size" envelope containing a folded
piece of heavy bond paper with one packet of Tylenol stapled to the paper.
The letters were sent from Alliant Energy through the US Postal Service.
Alliant Energy has made efforts to contact recipients by email informing
them of the situation.
Cities around the nation will receive the mailings. Please ensure
appropriate officials within your jurisdiction are aware of this situation
