Powder Coating Rocks

I just got a price to have the sides and top of my HQ coated blue. It is only $30NZ (about $13 US).

Powder coating is strong (they coat car parts with it)and is as smooth as spraypaint.

It is certainly worth considering as an alternative to spray painting

When I first saw this threads subject I thought, "Why would you want to powder coat rocks?".

Sounds like a great price. I've seen some powder coated car parts on tv and they really looked slick.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is the difference between powder coating and paint? It not really a powder is it? And if it is how does it stick?

How Does It Work?

I have seen actuall powder coating kits for the home. You get the paint then you use it in an oven to bake it on. The only problem is the oven cant be used after that for cooking. So if anyone has an old oven laying around jump into the business. LOL

Bummer I was hoping it was something I could buy to put a nice finish on my case.........:frown:

Was kinda thinking gloss two tone blend with metal flake, but only if I can do it myself. And to be honest I sucketh with a can of paint.

Actually it may be more in the US. Currencies are funny and services don't seem to scale like goods prices do.

Still it's cheap considering the amount i was quoted is would actually allow me to do 2 cases worth of parts.

I have used powder coating on bike frames before. It is pretty strong (not indestructable though)

Wouldn't this increase the insolation value of the case, hence making it warmer inside the case? u need even ventilation at this point.

I am cutting holes in the side of my case and installing Louvres. I'm also using 3 additional fans and a PCI system cooler. Heat shouldn't be a problem ( i hope)
