I would not consider soda(flavored water) food. You are paying the high soda price for unsustainable shareholder expectations and ceo pay rather than the main ingredient - water.

Here is a good link showing how more people are now shopping dollar type stores. It has been a big boom in this sector.

Inflation is very low right now, so shut up with this "printing money" BS. Just because you're a gullible idiot who read something on some Ron Paul forum doesn't mean it's true. Get it through your head that you're just not smart. You don't understand economics. All you people know how to do is parrot bullshit.

You want to know what's making food prices rise? Have you ever heard of ethanol? Land is finite. Water is finite. Fuel is finite. Therefore food production is finite.

Food has increased in price by 1.6% over the last 12 months.

Of course, everyone will ignore this and rant and rave about hand-picked anecdotes from their local grocery store.

Apparently you don't do the grocery shopping in your household. Regardless of what that says, almost everything I have seen has went up. I am not purely blaming inflation considering the summer we had but most everything has gone up more than 1.6 percent.

Based in at least the 8 states I have been in and out of over and over again the past 4 years. Primarily Safe way, food lion, and to a lesser extent BJs.

What that guy said

I try to stay out of threads started the way this one did but having looked at the crude oil market and fuel prices I think it more reasonable explanation of rising food prices...

Just kidding.

I'm going to try and stay out of this thread
I will watch from far away though.
some of the posts in these threads make me fill really smart.

OP - Soda is very bad for you.
You could save a lot of money by not buying soda.

I spent $1.50 on a can of soda from a vending machine; therefore, food prices are skyrocketing? Even if we set aside the aggregated data, which is a mixed bag:

http://www.foodinstitute.com/outlook.cfm

And instead rely on our personal accounts, the relevance of which are questionable given regional variations, differences in individual buying habits, and internet credibility issues, it might be helpful to discuss more than one or two food items?

We track our household expenditures in Quickbooks and have been doing so for 5 years now. In 2012, we have spent 7.1% more for food in the average month than we did in the year 2009. It goes up or down by month or season, but that's been the 3 year trend for us. Not very scientific, but better than "I spent $1.50 on a can of soda."

What one pays in reality has more relevancy than any other static. In my area prices are up. I keep records of what's spent and without changing shopping habits my bill is up 13%. Anecdotal? You'll have to explain that to my food budget.

When you say "relevancy," you have to specify what it is relevant in relation to. If aggregate food prices aren't climbing by that much, your personal experience, relevant as it is to you, isn't relevant to a national assessment of food inflation.

Personal experiences with food inflation can be affected by many things, including your buying habits and various factors which are regional, meaning they may affect other people who live in your area but not necessarily reflect a national trend.

Since this forum is about politics and news, I'm not really sure about the relevance of personal food budgets here. I guess we can start a thread so that people can bitch about how much money they're spending on food, but that seems like more of a social topic. If the topic is the national economy, we have to do better than cite our personal experiences. I cited mine above, and as I already said, it's not all that relevant to the national economy either.

You have a background in science, meaning I presume you understand something about statistics. So I think you know exactly what I'm talking about here, and that I'm quite correct.

yeah my bill is up far far more then 1.5 percent. we aren't eating much different. yet my bill is roughly 20% higher.

I figured this would fit well here. I could have made another thread which would lead to some hilarity, but this will do. oh those fucking crazy Danes. This is what people around the world are going to come to expect. Exactly what this woman has. You can already see it now, sure those here who don't get as much as her, but they are basically the same.

How dare people question her! If they think welfare is so great they should quit their jobs and go on it themselves!
