pound for pound what is really the best way to increase the speed

CPUs are very light... probably a new CPU 😛

It really depends on your current system. Getting rid of the biggest bottleneck is usually the best idea. This could mean more ram, a faster CPU, a better videocard, etc.

Exactly.

Sometimes updating your video card can make a HUGE difference. Othertimes, it's your processor that is holding you back. Yet other times, your RAM (or lack thereof) is your weakpoint. So what the best investment would be is quite relative.

I assume you mean price/performance when you say pound for pound.

I'd say that generally the components that extract the most performance from your computer would be (in cheapest to most expensive order) RAM, Video card, and then CPU. In some cases Video card and CPU can change places in the list (for instance, a 7800GTX is more expensive than a A64 3200+ which is still a fine CPU to upgrade to) .

Other things may apply (depending on what you're doing with your computer), but I find those to be the most integral performance parts.

Edited for clarity.

depends on the machine. The weakest link in mine is the video card (6600GT). The weakest link in your rig might be the CPU or something else.

It depends on your specific computer. If we don't know what's in it, we can't tell you.

is this like an imaginary machine, or is it your machine. if so, what are your specs, so we can tell you. you should be more clear about what you are trying to say, unless this is just spam, like that stupid crystals/solution thread.

It's an interrelated system.

The hard drive is the slowest part of memory and data storage, but that is only relevant when it's in use. Faster hard drives improve game level / map load times, but have no effect on frames per second unless the machine doesn't have enough RAM.

In the example above, adding RAM makes more of a difference than a faster hard drive up to a point, then improving the hard drive starts to affect one aspect of performance.

There is no one-word answer to your question except "money."

mine is intergrated graphics 🙁 just have to wait till friday than i can chuck this thing out the window.
