"Potty training" kitten.......

ok i adopted a little kitten a few days ago and i need to learn how to train it to piss in the kitty litter bin. it's already dropped twice in my bed, pooped 2 inches away from my xbox, and tried peeing on top of my xbox....good thing my g/f was quick enough to grab her up. funny thing is, i moved my xbox to another spot and she tried pissing on it again. wut a punk.

anyway, any pointers would be great. thanx

Put her in the litterbox often..she will get used to the digging impulse, and start going there. Most cats find the litterbox on their own, make sure it is in a prominent place in the middle of a room until she get's used to it.

smart cat. 🙂

Its a phase for some cats. My cat would poop always outside the box (in very predictable areas too thankfully) but always pee in the box. I kept just picking him up and dropping him in the box and he eventually caught on.

Short of just waiting it out, I don't know.

Kittens usually don't have to be potty trained. Just take the cat to the litter box often. For example, feed the cat, and as soon as the cat is done eating, take it to the litter box. Being clean animals, who prefer to go only in one spot and like to bury their waste in sand, they usually learn this very easily. I've seen kittens learn without a single accident.

When my cat was a kitten we would plop her in the litter box and she'd lay down and fall asleep every time. After 24 hours and some worry about not eliminating, I took her paw and made the digging motion for her. She immediately caught on and went right there and was fine from there on out. It was pretty funny. Maybe try that if you haven't already?

My cat has never once had an "accident" since we got her when she was 2 months old, even when I accidentally locked her out of the bathroom (litter box is in the bathroom) all night. Never had to do any training, either 🙂

First hour I had my kitten, I put her in the litter box. She squatted, peed, and dug the litter. The rest is history...

"You can toilet train a cat?"

"Yes, Focker, you see, we placed the litterbox inside of the seat, then removed it once Jinx became accustomed to it."

"Wow, that's great, can he flush, too?"

<sigh> "No, Focker, you see, a cat lacks the opposable thumbs necessary to perform such a motion . . . "

Both my cats are great about it. We have even moved the litter box 3 times (2 of the times in the same room) and they have no issues going right to it and using it.

Maybe you can try a different type of litter? There are litters out there that pretty much guarantee they will use it. Check petland, petco, whatever...

Now to only train them not to come sit on my lap after pooping....sigh....

Insane 3d is right...my kitten learned very fast using the same techniques....

You have to sleep sometime... might I suggest a cabinet or drawer for the xbox until this problem is resolved?

Unfortunately, I would go and look, but I am at the office. If you are still interested, I can check when I get to the house and tell you the brand that they recomend to "attract" the cats to pee in it.

Any of the Tidy Cat stuff is good. Don't get anything scented. I don't know about the special types for kittens, but make sure the box has nice low sides. When you see him start to squat grab him and put him in the box. It really shouldn't take more than once or twice for them to get the hang of it.
