Is there a (relatively inexpensive) device that I can change resistance electronically?

I'm thinking of a potentiometer where you can change the resistance by turning a knob. Is there anything similar where you can send it an electrical signal (like a series of digital pulses) and have the resistance change?
 
Thanks. That looks very much like what I wanted. Now I just need to see if they can handle the current. And get more technical data.
