potentially dumb question about XP cpu's...

i read from a post on the general hardware forums that you might need to reinstall your OS if u upgrade to an XP cpu. is that true? i am running win98 se right now. can anyone confirm this?

it shouldn't be a problem if you're just upgrading the CPU. You should definetly reinstall if you're upgrading your mobo though.

The reason for reinstalling the OS with an XP processor is to activate the SSE extensions in programs, so that they can take full advantage of the new chip.
