Potential Vulnerability status of major ecommerce sites

i just got a new boa card because of compromised data at a undisclosed third-party location. the card was re-issued new 6 months ago so i know it's either my vet, the car dealership, tool rental place or the e-commerce site named for a big cat or the big river.
 
my cc card would not authorize on tuesday night, i did use another card successfully though. the first company called me this morning to explain the denial was by design. The frquently linked to ecommerce site on anandtech is rampant with cc fraud.
