Potential list for new Computer, comments or suggestions?

Ok, ive been working on this for a while now but I submit it now to all of you to hopefully get some oppinions even since it is my first post here dont get all :| at me, or anything, hopefully.

$<400 - Not sure what monitor yet, I would like to keep it under 400 bones (Any good 19'' Flat screen). Suggestions?

Ive got a network card in this computer so it will get transfered over probably...

I feel like I have just got to be looking over something big and important... 😛
I had originally wanted to keep this thing under 2grand but that surely isnt gonna happen considering its already slightly over that (With $250 monitor) and I dont even have any tax or the cut throat-rate shipping computer places charge...

It looks like a really nice system for the most part. If I were you, I would just get the OEM Audigy. That would save you $100. Ask anyone that has the platinum creative cards, most of them hardly ever use the live drive. Digidocs look like crap in my opinion. There is really no use for them, especially since that would mean having the door open on your case all of the time to even get any use out of it. You could get a Lite-On 40x CDRW drive instead of the plextor (another $60 saved). Good choice on the hard drive (it is more like $210). You are gonna need PC2700 to gain full potential out of that motherboard. The KT333 chipset that it is based off of is made to use DDR333 (PC2700), but the crucial is only DDR266 (PC2100). Samsung makes some good PC2700 ($134 for a 512MB stick at Googlegear.com). If you are at all serious about gaming, like the GeForce 4 makes it look, don't get a cordless mouse and keyboard. They lag too much. The logitech dual optical or the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 are good mice. For a keyboard, I usually just try to find one with a full sized enter and backspace key. Go with windows 2000 for your OS. It has all of the perks of XP with less bloat and compatibility problems. For a monitor I would suggest the Samsung 900NF or Sony G420s. Ok, well I have fiddled around with possibilities and whatnot and changed a couple things but dont really have a official new 'list' exactly but Im at the keyboard and mouse problem. I get really tired of having a cord hanging all over the place but corded mouses are better for gaming, I had already known that to an extent but by how much does a optical RF type mouse lag in a game? I really havent had much experience with them, only a few short times at a friends house, but I'll take that advice. It woudlnt really change anything from now since all I have is corded anyway. Not like going from a cordless setup to a mouse with a leash 🙂. I could get that Intellimouse for 40 bux and use my current eMachines keyboard (Yea, SHoddyCOmp is an eMachine) if I wanted the stuff to be wired and take $50 off.

-I changed the two extra case fans to Antec 80mm Smartfans (Same price).
-The Sony G420S looks really nice, check. Thanks for the suggestion.
-I may toss the Digital Doc, i do agree they look stupid but what the heck eyecandy still even if I dont cut a huge hole for a window in the side of the tower

-I couldnt find any PC2700 earlier so you pointed me to some, and its cheaper than the Crucial PC2100. Some of the Crucial PC2100 can be overclocked like CRAZY (187mhz FSB as one of the online computer houses did) but all left alone the DDR333 is better anyway.
-I know the OEM and non OEM of the Audigy Platinum is a huuuge difference but I just have gotta fill up my front bays somehow and I dislike plugging in headphones in the rear of the tower all the time. It can be of use for different things occasionally....
-I downgraded the 40x/10x/40x to the 24x write speed Plextor, only a little more than the Lite-On 40x but infact burns at about the same speed anyway (24x ending the burn at 42x lol) in some reviews online, weird. Plenty fast enough though either way.
-Ive concluded the Intellimouse 3.0 is a better go than the wireless Logitech setup but I could always just buy it for when I dont want to be playing games at the time and dont exactly want to sit right infront of the computer. Maybe even the price will drop eventually too! 😎

I'd go with a Northwood, the Pentium 4 1.6A, and overclock that puppy. Buy some Samsung PC800 RAM, and you'll be set to go. Either the Asus motherboard (i850 chipset) or the Abit TH7-II would be a good choice. Much quieter, and you can ditch all the extra fans, just use the retail one. Also, do you really want a monstrous case? Newegg has an Evercase that has gotten some very good reviews aroundh ere, and it is for the most part screwless. Both of those suggestions will save you some cash 🙂

Personally, if I were to get an XP right now, I would go with the 1800+ or 1900+ cause you will save about $100-150 bucks over the newly released XP 2100+. It's not worth that extra money when you could upgrade in a couple of months and have that 2100+ then and still have an 1800+/1900+ to sell or trade.

I agree with Mavrick007. I'd also ditch the Digital Doc. Why not go for the 32x Lite-On?
