anyone have any?

I'm having a pot-luck dinner party for New Year's Eve. 8-10 people... I'm hosting at my apartment, but I'm working a 10 am - 6 pm shift on the 31st, so I need to think of something that I can make primarily ahead of time and put the finishing touches on + throw in the oven when I get home from work.

figured that since I'm the host, I should take the onus of volunteering to make the main course.

My grandmother's favorite...

Deviled eggs sunk in orange, lime, or lemon jello. Place deviled eggs in flat bottomed glass baking dish and pour in jello to cover top of eggs by at least a quarter inch, serve chilled.

I have no idea in which 1950's womens' magazine she found the recipe but we were sure to get it every Easter.

Big pot of sausage and peppers. Easy, fast enough to fit into the time frame and something that lots of people like.

Sausage is a good idea. Just prep 4 inch lengths of kielbasa and let folks cook their own over the burn barrel. Folks will enjoy the outdoor activity while drinking beer.

Deviled eggs,
And as plain as they may seem,
Decorate
Them with a spice of your choice....

Balut, Escamoles, Cazu Mazu, Lutefisk, and finish it off with some Durian smoothies.

homemade salsa and tortilla chips.

you can make the salsa a couple of days ahead and it will only get better with age.

I vote for Chilli, make it the day or two days before ... stick in frige ...
When you get home on 31st ... throw it on the stove ...
