Pot and the police

I am having a discussion with my friend about getting introuble with the cops and pot. He says smoking in the car while someone who is sober is driving is no problem and they will enver get caught. I think smoking in the car is the easiest way to get caught hands down. All you need is one out of 10000 things to go wrong and a cop can pull you over.

How many people here smoke pot and have been caught/harrased/or had it slide?

Depending on the state you can get HEAVY penalties for being caught driving and smoking.

The smell of pot in the car is enough for probable cause to search the car and the people in the car. Just sayin'.

Your Roomate thinks that a cop who pulls you over wont bother you or your friends if they are smoking pot? Is he joking?

Your friend is an idiot. Its PC for a search of the entire car and YOU without your consent. Any drugs in the car, and YOU will also be charged (if you both had equal access to it).

Oh, it might even be PC for a DUI arrest in which case the police can request a blood test to check for any illegal drugs in your system. It is your right to refuse, but expect heavy civil penalties. (IE, Losing your right to drive for x amount of months)

I've come across the police in regards to pot twice. Both were positive experiences.

1) Was smoking parked in a dead end, lights off, with a non-smoking friend chilling with me. My car. I put it out when I saw him but it reeked, obviously, and when he inquired I didn't try to hide the obvious. He gave me a violation ticket (similar to a seatbelt ticket in severity - not a misdemeanor) for a half-joint and the remains of a nickelbag. Asked about my friend, I said he didn't smoke and that was the end of that, he didn't try to bust my friend's balls.

2) Was driving around the yankee stadium parking lot looking for a spot, stoned out of my mind. I was a dumb kid. Per the statute of limitations, please don't give me a hard time about it, I wouldn't do it now that I'm older and less retarded. It was late evening and my lights were out, you could probably get high just from breathing in my car. The cop laughed, told me to put my lights on, and to enjoy the game.

Why? I am not promoting the use of pot, this is just a discussion.

I know, it's the responses that usually turn threads like this into a dead end.

Today when I was out discing a cop walked up to this car, the window went down, and out went a HUGE cloud of smoke. 4 people were hotboxing the car and got busted.

Sitting still in a parking lot smoking is the dumbest idea ever.

you are lucky. I have a feeling that in cities like NY and such they don't bust you as much cause they have a ton of other ****** to deal with.

If a cop pulls you over because he sees a passenger hotboxing, he can cite the driver for driving under the influence of intoxicants.

I live in Canada, I was in the car with my a couple of my friends who were smoking pot, me and another guy were not. A cop pulled us over and just told us to go home.
