Posts per day - how is it determined?

How many posts does it take to increase the average by one?
Why is it that the posts per day average seems to fall faster(when not posting) vs how slow it increases(when posting)?

Roger is correct on how it's determined.

The impact is a result of:

Number of posts (n) increases your daily post count by n/d, where d is the number of days you've been registered. If you've been here two years 30 posts made in one day would increase your PPD by 30/730 = 0.041 - or practically nothing.

The impact of posting absence varies by the length of time you've been registered. The effect specifically can be represented as previous PPD * (1 - (a/d)), where a is the length of absence & d is the total days registered.

For example...

You've been registered 4 days. The first three days you made 20 posts per day, the fourth day you made none. Total post count is 60.

20 * (1-(1/4)) = 15

If you've been registered 40 days & you miss one day (again assuming 20 posts per day, total post count of 780, 40th day you made none):

20 * (1-(1/40)) = 19.5

Missing a second day would result in:

19.5 * (1-(1/41)) = 19.024390243902439024390243902439

Which just so happens to be the same as:

20 * (1-(2/41)) = 19.024390243902439024390243902439

well, you see, he's been watching for his 16,000 posts... so he's had a lot of time and a huge sample size to work this out with 🙂

To answer your question qualitatively, when you're not posting you're averaging 0 posts per day, which brings your average down faster than when you are posting and you're just maintaining your current average or slightly above it, unless you go gung-ho and start neffing up the wazzu.

To answer more quantitatively, by my calculation, you've been registered 496 days. In that time, you've posted 1267 messages. This works out to 1267 / 496 = 2.55 Average Posts Per Day. Now, let's say you wanted to bring your average up by one post per day during the next month. Let's call how many posts you need X. So then the calculation would be X / 503 = 3.55. Solve for X, and you get 1786 posts!. So, if you want to bring your average posts per day up by one in the next month you need 1786 - 1267 = 519 new posts in the next month. During that time you'd be averaging 519 / 30 = 17.3 posts per day.

So, you'd have to average 17.3 posts per day over the next month just to bring your average posts per day up by one!

sheat! 20 posts per day 🙂 i do that some days, but not consistantly!

btw: is there a list of people who have the most posts?

There you go again Roger. Beating around the bush and sugar-coating things. Why don't you just tell how you feel?!😛
