Welcome aboard!
Took me a couple of weeks to get the system stable (after multiple registry errors/crashes/formats)...

Good Luck!!!

i had the drivers on a disk, but for some reason my drive a wouldnt function. it was an old drive, so i thought it died on me. i went to a computer shop bought a floppy drive, and returned and installed and same crap. i was pissed. then, as i was checking the bios i noticed it was off, LOL, what a fool i am. i bought a drive for nothing, oh well. but i have one problem though. On every bootup it provides me two selections of windows 2000 to boot from. I installed win2k on two partitions but later formated 1 of them, so it thinks there are still two installed. where can i go in the registry to change this?

danny~! btw hans, my computer also loves jlh :|

Go to the drive you have Win2K installed on, and look for a file called Boot.ini. It might be hidden and it will certainly be read only so undo that, and then open it up. You will see a list of OS that you have installed and the default one and the time you get to chose. You can edit any of this. Jusat delete the bogus Win2k, save, and make it read only again. And that ought to do it.

Danny, I'm 100% sure it's there. You have to go in folder options and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files". It should be in your C:\

i hate to break it to you but there is NO SUCH THING AS boot.ini anywhere in my computer. Its showing all files and I did an entire such on *.ini files and no boot.ini. no where in sight, are you referring to another different file? maybe system.ini, ???

hamburger: please, dont work against me, work with me. I have soundblaster live mp3+ and the drivers arent installing, i open the .exe and nothing happens :( i'm not liking 2k that much now

As far as I know, boot.ini is the next file listed in the root dir of the install drive after autoexec.bat. I haven't seen a W2k system yet that doesn't have it, it's kinda a crucial system file, along with ntldr and ntdetect.com. Open Explorer, click Tools, Folder Options, View. Check Show hidden files and folders. Uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types, and uncheck hide protected operating system files (Recommended). Then go to the root of your install drive, and boot.ini should be there. If it's not, then I have no ideas.......lolol

Easiest way if you don't want to change the boot file (you have to have hidden files showing, btw), is to go to:

Right click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery

Select the one you want to start, and put the time to zero. You will never see a selection menu again.

Welcome... You finally get to enjoy what we've been enjoying for over an year. ;)

BTW, What do you mean the .exe isn't opening? Maybe it didn't download properly, this happened to me today while I was downloading a file from VIA.

I've seen an install of Win2k on another PC suddenly get serious problems with the (on-board) soundcard. Installing a SB 128 PCI solved it :)

The only soundcard I use in all of my PC's is also the SB 128 PCI :D:p

BTW glad to see that you left that crappy Win98 (P)OS behind :)
