yeah, i heard that AT forums didnt work on lynx....well if you read this post then i guess it does...anyways, what do i need to do? i was told to edit /etc/apt/sources.list and change every instance of potato to woody, but the only references to potato are for the CD. so i changed the "stable"s to "unstable"s, and that got me all 'file not found' errors. what do i need to do?

.....

maybe whoever said lynx and AT are incompatible just meant that the layout is hard to manouver in lynx, which is true....anyways, i feel very neutered right now, lynx is very cumbersome for websurfing...i wish the OS forum was busier!!! help1!!!!!! :Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q

oh and the main reason i want to do a dist-upgrade is that i was told that Xf86 4.whatever is a big step up and also i would be able to actually get my gf2mx working!!!!

the driver for it wont compile, i get a CC mismatch error....i did an export CC=`which gcc` which sets it to /usr/bin/gcc, but i still get the compiler mismatch error.......:(:(:(:(:(:(:( this sucks....i havent even been using linux for the past week because all of these problems...oh well at least now that i got my network connection working i can post for help

thanks

well while i was posting that i was getting help on irc, and now i did the dist upgrade "successfully", except afterwards my path was all messed up, and stuff was just acting messed up....hopefully when i go back (i'm in windows) it will be ok.....if not...err...hey what paths should be in my path? i know most but i dont want to miss any....

/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/games:/usr/X11

those are all i remember....i can write them down and maybe fix it...hopefully thats all thats messed up (knock on wood..)

it's hard to do things when man is not found in the path, i go to find man, and it finds it, but scrolls past it because more and less are not in the path so i cant do a "find xxxxxxxxx | more" (or less).....

sigh

ok i just booted into linux......still path is all messed up....here are all my env. variables or whatever the hell you call them in linux

declare -x HOME="/root"
declare -x HUSHLOGIN="FALSE"
declare -x HZ="100"
declare -x LANG="C"
declare -x LOGNAME="root"
declare -x MAIL="/var/spool/mail/root"
declare -x OLDPWD="/root"
declare -x PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11"
declare -x PS1="\\h:\\w\\\$ "
declare -x PWD="/root"
declare -x SHELL="/bin/bash"
declare -x SHLVL="1"
declare -x TERM="linux"
declare -x USER="root"

so bitchx and lynx could not connect...so i figure maybe the thing i did with the tulip driver didnt "stick" so i did a modprobe tulip then a ifup tulip, and still no connection.

i am getting really sick of this $hit.....maybe i'll just install woody from scratch. time to look for those isos...

<----this $hit is pissing him off alot

If it pisses you off that you have to do that much work, dont use Debian.

Here is my path: /usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games
Here is root's path: /sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin

Put this in "/etc/modules.conf" to keep the tulip driver: alias eth0 tulip

You need 'ifup eth0' not 'ifup tulip'.

And if you put tulip in /etc/modules it'll load at boot up.

I think if there's not a blank line at the end of /etc/modules it behaves badly, never looked into why.

i'm gonna do a clean install of woody..

after fixing my path, man still got a file not found, i think my "manpath" is messed up, also woody's network setup is apparently different from potato so my network was hosed....anyways, i'm sure someone who knows alot could fix these problems easily but everytime i fix a damn problem, another one pops up, i'm gonna just take it easy....i read up a bit on woody and downloaded the images, i'm gonna just do a clean install of it.
