Posting from dial up

Well I just set up my dial up modem and such after my DSL ended a couple of days ago. All i can say is that I am going to get old waiting for pages to load. It took me 30 seconds to load anandtech.com without the pictures or anything, 40 seconds to log into forums, and a whole minute to open up this "post new topic" page. I just tried checking my yahoo email account and it took me 2 minutes to sign in.

Dang this blows🙁

I couldn't find any of our modems that I took out of the computers over the years.... All I could find were some old 28.8 and 33.3 modems. Turns out that the new modem we purchased was unnecessary.

But, OP, I have you beat today! I'm getting 28.8!!!

Then again, I keep getting bumped every 10 minutes or so and the total time to connection is running around 2 minutes.

26.4kbs is very unusually slow. How long is your cord? Do you have it going through a splitter? If so, remove the splitter and shorten the cord to 10' or less.

Even at that speed though, it shouldn't take 2 mins to load a page. You may have some spyware or something in the background that could be using some of that (ie windows update, AV updating, etc).
