Too bad it's in the Apple store and not my apartment.

BTW, Apple customer service rocks, they'll take back stuff under warranty even when you tried to pry it open with a screwdriver :)

Well I've got a 12" iBook w/ a combo drive.... The 12" Powerbook costs $200 more than I paid for my iBook last summer.

and if you are a student you can join the ADC and get another $400 off the 12" powerbook.

Dont get the superdrive, its only a 1x DVD burner. You can get a PC 4x burner for the same price

My AC wall adapter stopped working and my laptop wouldn't charge. I thought I might have pulled a wire loose inside it or something. So, I got a screwdriver and tried to pry the plastic casing off, to see if I could get to any possibly broken wire inside.

Thing is, the casing doesn't really come off, it jsut cracks and leaves big gouge marks.

HA! You made a funny...that's a first!!!! Very nice. :) "Big gouge marks" huh? It's cool that they took it back. So, thinking that somehow you pulled a wire loose inside a COMPLETELY SEALED CASE, you pried it open with what amounts to a crowbar...and then, magically, it no longer worked, huh? ;)

actually, does anyone know if the antenna for the wireless in the 15" powerbook has changed since the 600mhz G4? my friend has it, and it's range is horrible compared to my ibook.

Nope.

It still sucks pretty badly. That is pretty much the ONLY thing about my G4 PowerBook that I am unhappy with.

No it hasn't yet. Even the 17" powerbook has the problem with low range. The ibook has the antennas located along the LCD while the powerbooks are in the base. Hopefully Apple will wise up sometime to fix this problem. The range rocks on the ibook!

<----Hopefully buying a new iBook/Powerbook at the end of the year :)

how do you open pages in a new window in osX? I normally hold down the cmouse button and press down to get that menu thing. Thats what I hate about my iBook and macs in general. No right mouse button.

I want to get one and some academic software (photoshop, macromedia studio mx, coreldraw) before I graduate, but I don't have any $$ . . .. :( (plus 3Dstudio 5.0 is PC only, apparently)

No "new" (alumininum) 15" PB have been released, but I know the 12" PB has much better reception than the a Tibook so I'm assuming the 15" and 17 Albooks will have as good a range as the 12".

Odd, Apple said in their introduction of the 12/17 PB's that the antenna was in the screen like the iBook. Anyhow, for those of you with 15" PB's, there's supposedly a trick to re-align the antenna by removing the battery, but I don't know the specifics.
