Posting from a MAC for the first time

let me tell you, after years of using microsoft, and complaining about it, i realize that there is another OS out there. however. the newest mac os looks cooler, becasue it is 3d, the rendering takes forever, and it is very akward to use. especially the single button mouse, and the tiny arse keyboard, that makes my spelling even worse. the keyboard is almost as small as some laptop boards, and te mouse is just horrific. and i dont notice any big advantage to doing graphic work on an apple.

i am impressed at the sleek design of it, but its akward mouse, and file organizing smell up the room more than 6 month old cheese.

I don't mind a single button mouse, but remember that to do the right click type of the stuff it's Apple-Click. Or else just get yourself a 2 button mouse. Ironically, I use a Microsoft wireless mouse with scroll wheel sometimes with my Mac.

As for the keyboard, I guess you don't realize that it is a FULL-SIZE keyboard. Even all the Mac laptops have full size keyboards.

i didnt buy the mac. i am using it at the office for photoshop work, becasue one of my sucky co workers is using MY amd 3000+ machine.

and yes. this OS is SLLOOOWWW

full size keyboard...ack to that. the thing is more flat than my ex girlfriend. and the keys are too close together

type-o's and what not. i have fat fingers, and i hit too many keys at once the way it is.

and the tiny arse light on the caps button sucks. you cant even see it, even with minimal lighting in the room.

no num lock key, or print screen keys.

when i get a new computer, i dont want to buy parts for it to make it better, i want it good out of the box...
or when i build it

What OS? What machine?

Panther is the fastest version of OS X, but even then it requires a fast G4 or a G5, with Radeon or higher video card. If you run it on a slow G4 or a G3 it's gonna feel slow. Plus you need at least 512 MB for just usual stuff. I tell the pro guys to get 1-4 GB depending on the application.

You should try out Exposé though. Open up a bunch of windows, hit F10 and then click on the desired window.

Ok, I can understand how it can make it harder to type. It shouldn't affect your spelling, however. 😛

Go to the Apple menu in the top left and click on "About this Mac". There will be a button to get more info. In there will be all the specs.

Anyways, Most eMacs will be slow, and most people who run eMacs don't put much memory in them either. They are Apple's lowest end computers.

The side-bar is usually on the bottom, and can be hidden.

I'll repeat too, that the keyboard is FULL-SIZE. It just looks smaller because it doesn't have a big border. I like the light on the caps button.

Look harder for numlock too.

Well if it's an eMac, no sh!t. That's like running WinXP on a 600 MHz eMachine. No surprise it's going to be slow!

it is a 1ghz, and 128 mb of ram
with a g4 processor
no wonder it is going arse

I thought you were posting from a Mid American Conference school.
😕
Man, I gotta stop reading college football reviews at work.

The eMac would only feel slow if it had less than 512MB, which it most likely does. My dad's G4-400 machine with 640MB feels pretty snappy with Panther, and it still has the original rage 16mb card.

Yep, that machine will royally suck. I have 768 MB just in my laptop (G4 1 GHz). By the way, what OS? Mac OS X 10.3 is much faster than 10.2.

A G4 400 with 640 MB and Rage is too slow IMO, esp. for someone used to Windows on a PIII 1 GHz or something.

My god, there is your problem. If that thing had even just another 256MB stick, it'd run a lot better.

Use a mac with more ram and then make your mind up about the speed of Panther. Panther flies on my 800MHz powerbook with 512MB of ram.

512MB for usual stuff??? Do you mean to use photoshop and applications or just to use the Mac?? Cause if its the latter, I'd wonder why OSX is so great.

IMO 384 MB is OK for surfing and Microsoft Office, iTunes, etc., but if you run say 5 applications at the same time then 512 MB or more.

For Photoshop pros I recommend 2 GB or more. Photoshop is VERY memory intensive (both on the Mac and the PC).
