Hi guys , I am trying to config postfix to pass mail to another server running Cyrus . Unfortunately all the Readmes and guides seem to point to cyrus + postfix being hosted on the same server.

Any Help Greatly Appreciated

Noc I want the IMAP Server to be located closer to the clients . Currently , its hosted on the same server running postfix , but the network [WAN] is not coping with the mail traffic

djd, I don't believe this will help your traffic load any. If the problem is the WAN then this won't help. You will still be transmitting the same (possibly more) amount of traffic.

I don't think that you can, all of the postfix+Cyrus stuff that I've done used the local lmtp socket for delivery. Why not just put a copy of Postfix on the new Cyrus server too?

Sure, but the client traffic will be local instead of going across the WAN.

Thanks Nothinman , I think I am going to put another box like you said with Postfix + Cyrus on the inside network .

To TonyRic , putting so many client requests through a wan is never a good idea , I get charged for wan usage and it's extremely hard for me to judge how much traffic clients are generating . The other HUUUGE problem with this is , is that I have some POP3 clients sending usr / passes in the clear . Connecting to a local server like Nothinman said would allow me to tunnel the connections and add some sort of compression on the WAN links.

I'll report any faults / findings in this forum
