About two weeks ago I was playing basketball. Didn't make contact with anyone. just had that feeling that something was wrong as I was walking backwards quickly. No play was going on. Initially I think I was in the middle of twisting my ankle so I dropped to the floor (I do this and never have had a bad ankle injury). People thought I was hurt, play stopped. I got up and played on. Thing is, I don't think it was my ankle. I think I tweaked my knee somehow. I think within a few minutes of falling I realized that my knee felt a bit off. Then on, there was tenderness in the knee that night. Not pain. It just felt wrong somehow.

I know I have a torn meniscus. It doesn't hurt. My specialist told me not to worry about it until it hurts. I don't think this is my meniscus since it is my inner knee that hurts. From reading, I think it is my posterior cruciate ligament that is tender.

So, two weeks later and things still feel wrong. I'm sitting now and it is fine. I walk and it is fine.

The thing is, I ran two nights ago and after I was more than warmed up, my knee still hurt. 15 minutes into the run when I know I was warmed up, the damned thing still hurt. Now when I say hurts, I kept running and I didn't really notice it unless I was paying attention to it. Got home stretched and that was that.

last night was weight night. So I did my warm up on the elliptical for 5 minutes. That's usually fine and then it is on to squats. I did no bar squats to test my knees as usual. I usually do this or do empty bad squats just to make sure my 38 year old knees are properly warmed up. Eventually I was convinced that I was warm. At half working weight though, the dammed knee was tender. I almost quit squatting. But I kept going and by the time I got to my final working set (of 5 sets), I was not feeling much pain at all. The first few working sets had me in some pain though. Not bad enough to worry or stop. Just noticeable.

What is going on here? Sprained posterior cruciate ligament ... 2 weeks after initial injury? Is it possible that my meniscus is finally needing repair? Could my meniscus pain feel like it is the inner knee?

This is not much pain so I'm not in a rush to get it look at .... I know what everyone is going to say to that.

FWIW: My left knee feels like it did 20 years ago. All this pain is in my right knee.

Go see a specialist. They will feel around and do some tests and tell you what it could be. They will likely order an Xray. Xray will likely come back negative. Then they will order an MRI. Then, you will know what's wrong.

PS Don't go to Norwich Orthopedics, they blow.

I tore my media meniscus (in my 20's). Also a basketball player and weight trainer. I recovered the continued to play. Eventually I blew out my ACL . Flash forward 20 years and it has taken me years to build up the surround muscles and have no problems. The keys for me were conservative treatments and a new cardio regimen (cycling and fast walking). I now avoid all cutting sports and squats, do a lot of straight leg lifts. Also I have been able to avoid surgery and am 100% pain free.
I would curtail all high intensity training until you know what your diagnosis is.
