Listed my carbon fiber bike with a lot of really high end components/equipment on there for $2500 and got this inquiry:

"Ill give you a cash offer of 1800, which depletes my bank account. could you take it into consideration?"

:awe:

How about you take better care of your money and spend it on things that are useful?

I also facebooked the guy and it turns out he's in high school, kids these days..

$400,000 for a car?
or
$25million for a house?
or
$33,000 for a gun?
or
$3000 for a computer?
or...

Your computer analogy is legitimate, but the others aren't as they're much more limited based on income. Any Joe Double-Mortgage can blow a middle four figures on a bike or computer.

Any offer is better than no offer.

That seems to be the popular response on Craigslist lately - "I have [insert cash] which is significantly lower than your asking price [I hope you'll be blinded by the word *C*A*S*H* and accept my offer because I'm gonna resell it for a nice profit elsewhere]"

Even more popular is the guy who over estimates his goods by double the market value. I'm sorry kelly blue book and nada are legitimate. That is a guideline for negotiating to start.

I'd also bet OP paid $2700ish for his bicycle 1 1/2-2 years ago and still wants $2500 and $1800 offer is a slap in the face.

LOL....when my gf sold her car, she got so many, "Can I have it for $X, it's all I have" or "They only approved me for $x on my loan....you should sell it to me for that price".

A) Why shouldn't he offer less than what you asking. Everyone haggles, especially on places like CL. Welcome to the real world.
B) Why do you care if he spends every red-cent he has? For all you know that depletes that one bank account, but he has 10 other accounts in Switzerland with $10B each.
C) If no other offers come in, take his.
D) honeslty, at $2500 USED, that better be one hell of a bike (yes I know what I'm talking about)

I hate low ballers on CL. I put up an item for $300. I was willing to go down to $280. Some guy lowballed me at 200, we haggled up to 280. He was far away so I agreed to meet him quarter of the way (about 20 mins drive for me, 40 mins for him). He showed up with $260 with an excuse, that's all the cash he had on him. I bet he was thinking I'd agree to $260 since'd I'd already driven out a bit. Boy was he surprised when I turned around and drove back home with my item.

Link to the AD?

But write back and say how about $2600. If he responds that 2600 is more than the asking price just say you are bad at this sorta thing and say $2550?
