Postal service (or lack thereof) Rant!

Postal Service
My question, is, where in the hell is the service? For the last two weeks, I have gone to the Post Office, every day, and stood in lines that were out the door and into the parking lot, only to get inside and find 1 or 2 clerks at the counter. Keep in mind there are 8 potential windows that could be open. There are 2 slackers (for lack of a better term), who will wait on 2 or 3 customers, then close and put up their little placard that says, "please wait for the next clerk". This infuritates me! I see the same two standing around doing nothing going back and forth to the back, talking with each other in the halls.

It is taking it's toll on a couple of the ones who hardly ever take breaks. This one gal told me, there are 3 or 4 who take constant breaks, even leaving the building for 15 to 20 minutes sometimes, dropping the load on everyone else. What are they doing? Can't they get fired? Who is the boss and what is he / she doing? :Q

I don't think I will be able to continue to do this everyday and come out with my sanity. It takes about an hour and a half (15 minutes there, 1 hour wait, 15 minutes back). Argh! I am going to find out who is in charge, then who is in charge of them.
I want some butts, and I want them now!!!! :|

i know how you feel.

here in orange county it has been the same thing.

however, our PO employees here work hard, and there are still lines going out the door.

I have the utmost praise for the ones who are working, and working very hard. They even do it with a smile on their faces. It's the other ones, as well as the Postmaster, who I think need to be slapped into shape or fired. That is a management issue.

Just open up a personal FedEx account like I did. You can fill out the slips at home and drop the packages off anytime. And 24/7 if you find a FedEx dropoff at a 24 hour Kinko's like I did. As for money orders, use the supermarket or something. USPS flat out sucks the big donkey dong.

hamburgerpimp

does a personal fedex account cost anything?

what steps would i go about doing that?

and how are the rates compared to usps?

thx for helping.

How much of a problem have you had with them loosing stuff? They have lost more of my packages...... Insurance, tracking and everything doesn't mean a thing to me if I have to go 3 weeks without my package 🙂

I can honestly say, the only claim I've had to file out of probably 600+ packages is for a box they crushed, destroying 2 cpus. That took me almost 3 months to get my insurance claim.

Oh, of course that doesnt count the 6-7 refunds because they couldn't get Express packages to their destination on time.

What gets me is how few post offices there are in the US compared with how big the US is, thus they are always hard to find & when you do find them, they always have queues like what seems like a mile long.

Here in Oz it virtually every suburb has its own post office - here in just Sydney there are about 500 post offices alone (Well 500 in the Sydney A-K phone book)

Steve:

Is there a smaller post office that is a little further away that you can go to?

The Main post office near me is the same way. Few windows open, long lines, a few slackers. Instead of spending 30-45 minutes in line, I often spend 5 more minutes (each way driving) and go to a smaller post office where the wait is always less than 2 minutes (3 windows, all good workers, line with 0-4 people in it).

I have the same problem...it's not too bad...the line is about a 10-15 minute wait

but it makes me mad at the people who are standing in line being idiots.

Like the people who got a parcel pickup card like 10 minutes ago and expect their package to be there.

Or the people who stand in line w/ those "change of address" forms and dont fill them out until they get to the window.

Or the people who use express envelopes for normal shipping.

Sure...people make mistakes, but get your ass to the back of the line and fix it. Please dont make those of us who know what we're doing wait longer.

If you think about it, charging 32 or 33 cents for their service is quite amazing. I personally think it is the hottest deal around.

1) A physical person must pickup your mail from a mail box
2) Deliver it to a post office where it is hand sorted generally
3) Put on a truck to the main post office
4) Sorted again for the proper city
5) Put on a truck for the proper city
6) Once in proper city, sorted again for proper dispatch
7) Sorted to proper mail carrier
8) Hand delivered to your mail box

All of this taking place in about 2 days. Truely amazing, and to think it only costs about 33 pennies. You couldn't even drive to the mailbox for that amount!

Gee, I wonder who's the one going "Postal" here!! LOL.

j/k

Same thing happens to me too. It P!sses me off when I have to wait forever at the post office, but the worst part is no one working there seems to give a damn either. They just want to sit on their spreading @sses and collect their gaurenteed gov't paycheck.

Make the PO a company !!! Worked over here service has become significantly better delivery times shortened and what not. 😀

Had 2 checks mailed out to me on Nov 22 One arrived nov 25 the other didn't arrive until Dec 15. They were mailed together and postmarked at the same time. Personally I don't care how cheap it is that just plain sucks.

In my hometown, the PO are run well and I usually only have to wait about 5 minutes. The workers are friendly and they all seem to chip in when it gets busy. Heck they know me by name. This is in a city with 200,000 people. But I moved to Dallas and the lines here are out the door (into the parking lot yesterday I am not kidding.) The workers are sarcastic and are NOT helpful at all.

It seems like the USPS needs to take a look at how they distribute branches. Why coverage is really good in some areas and terrible in others is beyond me. This screams innefficient management. I am suprised they make a profit at all.

I would love to see another company come in and offer mail services for a cheaper price than the PO, maybe some healthy competition would light a fire under the USPS ass. Is the USPS granted some sort of exclusive right on mail service or something?

what gets me is when you mail a letter to some small, noname town, and they still deliver it there!

they must drive for a long time to get there, and even so, they still do it.....

Just get there 8 in the morning. If I can't get there at 8am, I just don't go, cuz I know I'd be waiting a long long time otherwise.

I have mucho respect for postal workers. They have to put up with whinings sumsobitches like us without being able to sit down for long amounts of time. Treat them nicely, and they'll do their job with courtesy. I sent via priority mail all the time, and everything I send within the lower 48 gets there in 2 days. Even to Boston from Colorado. Humph🙂

I have seem maybe 40% of the priority packages not get to their destination in 2-3 days. I send priority mostly because it satisfies the buyer, not because I think it will get their quickly. I need to find a close Fedex office...
