Let's start with this new deal, and it's a good one.

Ryzen 2500U, quad-core mobile Ryzen, Vega 8 iGPU.
8GB (4GB soldered + 4GB SO-DIMM) dual-channel DDR4
256GB PCIe SSD (probably M.2 NVMe, I hope)
Full HD (1080P) 15.6" screen
$329! This sort of laptop used to start at around $500 on sale.

I recently picked up a nice Dell gaming laptop (G5 with 4GB 1050 ti), was clearanced, and all that was left was a display model. Got it for $500 plus tax - replaced the RAM 8GB with 32GB and the 128GB SSD Stick with a 1TB NVME stick - for just under $750 I've got a nice game development system. Oh, and I upgraded the Windows to Pro with a key I had available to me.

The funny thing was the clerk telling me what sorry shape the display unit was in... "janky keyboard with missing caps, scratched screen, gouges in the case, Windows wiped out by some customer" but none of that was the case.

What I'm saying is be persistent and take a look at the system, and you might score something nice.

link fixed

Acer Aspire 1, 15.6" HD, Intel Celeron N4000, 4GB DDR4, 64GB eMMC, Windows 10 in S mode, A115-31-C23T

$149 only. Even cheaper than mini-PCs from China. And with a large screen!

Excellent for guest visiting your house who needs internet access or use it as kitchen computer.

===

And 2 core Celeron N4000 is faster than 4 core Z8350 used in many mini-PCs.

@mxnerd , that Walmart product link is missing the slash and the product id number. You trimmed the link too much, it doesn't go anywhere. The description string is ignored when resolving the link.

This one looks interesting, at $274. Refurbished, 2 core i7, Win 10 Pro, 12.5in screen, I know it will be solid, the only thing is that it is vintage 2012, so obviously no m.2, would also have to upgrade the HDD to SSD...
