I got a buy.com. Batch #L018A553. SLW37 Malay. Needed 1.65 volts to boot Win 98 @ 850. Needed 1.7 volts to run at 892 but ran cool with retail HSF. Now running stable at 932 with 72 watt water cooled peltier at 1.8 volts and internal diode temp of 53 degrees fahrenheit, 12 degrees celsius.

Setup: Soyo 6BA+IV, Abit Slocket III, 256 mb PC100, Voodoo 3 PCI, Maxtor 7200 rpm, etc.

The same setup runs 366 celery at 660, so the 566 is the limiting factor here. My conclusions so far - cooling does not matter as much as bumping the voltage. I am not willing to go much higher than 1.8v, so it looks like I have reached the limit unless a new slocket helps.

My verdict on the week 18's - overclockable, but not great.

I've had a OEM 566 for about 3 weeks. Needed 1.70 to run at 850. Still got random lockups in cpu intensive work. Had a golden orb and Abit Slotket III. Decided to order (for noise abatement) PC Power and Cooling heatsink/fan. Got it today and upon removing the GO I discovered it was tilted, effectively cooling only half the chip!!! There was no visible residue of thermal paste over part of one side of the top of the cpu. Damn thing seems stabler now with the new heatsink/fan, have yet to try for more than 850 yet or lower the voltage.

Moral of the story is.......flip chip Coppermines and Celery's are so dinky be extra careful mounting the heatsink. I'd have sworn my GO was on solidly.

Got my buy.com 566 up to 876 (103fsb) at 1.75v with retail heat sink and fan (my GlobalWin is toooo big!). Wouldn't boot at lower voltage or at a higher fsb. I'll probably go to 1.85v to see if it'll go higher tonight. Will post again if I can kick it up higher.

My system is:
AOpen AX6BC Pro Gold mobo
128 pc 100 ram
Abit Slotket !!!
Asus V3400 agp vid card
MX300 sound
HP CD Writer 9100
Atapi 40x CD drive
DLink pci net card
C2/566 S Code SL3W7
Week 18
Pack date 05/19/2000
Malaysia

Ran burnp6, burnmmx, and burncpu for an hour simultaneous with no problem, also ran SETI overnight and it rocked.

BH6 Rev. 1.01
BIOS BH6_SS (released 7/6/2000)

I just installed and booted up a tonight. Looks very stable at 1.55V @ 850 MHz using retail HSF. No CPU Diode monitoring on BH6 so not sure what the temps look like yet. I'll move to a BX6R2 later for that.

Ok, so it boots to Win95 and does normal stuff 117 FSB (995Mhz) at 1.75V. Will work for a while @1.85 volts in Quake2 but eventually freezes up. With some additional cooling (using Golden Orb now) and some other tweaks, I believe it will run around the 1Ghz stable. We'll see. :) Oh, fine at 112FSB (952 Mhz)

Got my second celeron 566 retail. This one from computers4sure. Same batch and week as my celeron from buycomp. This one is a winner. 850 Mhz at 1.65 V, no sweat!. Runs completely stable, no crashes yet with prime and 3dmark.

The other from buycomp needed 1.75 or 1.8 V to run stable at 850 Mhz.

Finally got my retail Celeron 566 running at 892@1.75 volts, 39C idle!
Ran some 3D games, Sandra and Prime95. So far stable.

MSI Master Slotkey
Golden Orb
ASUS P3V4X
generic PC133 memory

While testing I was having the strangest problem. I had everything set to default on the MSI Slotkey and would only get 850@1.65. I could reboot and go all the way up to 935@1.80v. But if I shutdown and power down the computer, it would not even post when I tried to start! I would have to pull the power cord and then it would default back to 566 and throw me into the bios setup. I finally tried setting the voltage at the slotkey and now I'm at 892!

Whoohoo!

mechwarrior, looks like we have the same chip (same batch #). I can`t get 100 FBS out of mine. I`m using a generic slotket and I`m waiting for my MS 6905, hoping that will do the trick. Anyhow, you say you are setting voltage on slotket, what is the voltage set in bios (motherboard)? Do you set at "default"?

Percboy,

On the MSI Master slotkey, I set the voltage to 1.75. The ASUS P3V4X bios picks this up as the default voltage and gives you additional higher voltage options that you can choose from. So if you set the voltage on the slotkey at 1.90(which I did by mistake), you would start out at 1.90 and get additional higher voltage options.

Well.......
My c566 is at...err....876 i think. Volatge is....either 1.9 or 1.85, i don't recall. And I'm too lazy to find out right now.
I'm being held back by my video card though, and my heatsink.
Vidcard is a Viper2, which basically cant handle ANY AGP bus speed over the standard 66mhz - not even 70mhz. Sigh. The heatsink...hehe...measures 6cmx6cmx4cm with a DINKY fan on top. It cost me $8 aust. (~$5us).
Better cooling and using a vidcard that can handle a over-spec'd AGP speed should see me go higher.
Nearly forgot :) - Temps.
Not running rain or anything, WHILE running RC5, playing the halo E3 movie in background, an MP3, sisoft sandra, icq and actively using nternet explorer gives me varying temps between 41.5 and 49c (avg ~43c i'd say)

Fair to say I'm happy. Just hope CounterStrike doesn't have any issues with it.

Hey everyone I found out something that might be helpful for o/c'ing.
I recently purchased an Iwill Slocket II. I've been only able to o/c my c2 566 to 633 but after talking with a rep from Iwill he suggsted when trying to hit that 100mhz fsb that I may want to use win98 (2nd edit) and/or patch win98 (1st edit) with all available patches. He said win98 in and of itself doesn't tolerate the 850mhz real well. Without the patches I was able to get my pc to post and load win98 at 850mhz but right after I got a registry error. This was because my original load of win98 was done while my pc was running 566@566 66fsb. Again, I think the way around this is to either patch my 98 and/or use 2nd edit. In addition, also try running my c2 at 100fsb but start at 6.0 multiplyer and then slowly work my way up to 8.5. I hope this help someone! Give me your thoughts if you feel like it )

finally got my slocket to run my C2 566. Have it running stable at 850 with slocket volts at 1.85 although motherboard monitor reports 1.77 average. Will burn in for a while have been running prime 95 for a few hours right now and temps are reported at 43c which seems high, but sacramento summer is hot out. Besides an orb wont fit in the case due to power supply what heatsink/fan combo would you reccomend?

thanks in advance.

I got a C2 566 a few weeks after they first appeared on pricewatch.

It's running stably at 850/1.7V 100Mhz FSB on an ASUS P3V4X with an Abit Slotket !!!. I'm using the standard heatsink/fan combo with no thermal grease. The CPU's running a bit warm and I'm thinking about getting an Alpha or Golden Orb but as long as things stay stable I'll probably leave it as is until I upgrade the cpu again. :)
