I'm formating and installing WinXP. What things do you absolutely do/install/remove everytime you wipe your system?

Me, I stopped careing a long time ago. I format, install,

- Turn off pageing, defrag, turn paging back on with a fixed 2gig page file (assures that the page file does not get fragmented)

-service packs and updates

-install office xp, and get those service packs

-Virus Protection

-Remove windows messenger

-install Aim from 2001 and aim plus from sametime

-install winamp (what is the foobar stuff that people use now?)

-install firefox

-Install winrar, adobe, flash, and divx

Please post why this is wrong.

I got this from http://www.windowsdevcenter.com/pub/a/windows/2004/11/23/defrag_pagefile.html

I heard it on Teh Intarweb, it must be true!

Here's mine:

1) Reimage

Well, it sounds reasonable to me, and it's on O'Reilly Windows DevCenter.

Maybe if you took a look in the right forum, you'd see the bazillion questions and answers on this topic.

I'm not to 1337 when it comes to reformatting. I just reformat, partition the storage drive into a 100 gig and 60 gig and the other drive is just a 30 gig so that stays like that.

I install all the XP updates first, then I go about installing FF, Office, etc. etc.
