ok, this is for everyone who wants to post their Quake 3 FPS scores. To begin, we should all be running with the same resolution, and game options.

CUSL2 / P3 700E @1000MHz / GTS 64MB / 6.18 win2k drivers

Quake 3, 1024x768, 32-bit, full everything <-what does this mean for everyone?

demo001
84fps with S3TC off
101 fps with S3TC on. i.e., S3TC is texture compression.

BTW, spidey how are you getting 123fps?

Well you already know money...

123 fps at 1024x768

When I say 32 bit, full everything I mean HQ MAX. All details and textures to max, all game options on such as HQ sky, detailed objects, etc in your Game Options menu, all bells and whistles as this is how I normally frag unsuspecting victims.

I think my framerates are so high because:
1) It is a BX board, BX is just plain smokin when it comes to Q3
2) My memory is severly overclocked (150 Mhz) and still able to run CAS2-2-2 with precache enabled. This alone gave me a substanial boost over CAS3 as can be seen by high sandra mem scores.
3) My CL GTS2 is also overclocked nicely to 225/390 (BIG HELP).
4) Using 5.30 detonator drivers\
5) AGP2x bus is running at 100 Mhz (don't think this matters)

All these little tweaks helped me move from the low hundreds to where i'm at now. 640x480x32 normal runs about 169 fps.

Or maybe I'm just smokin crack and mistook my score...I'll run again tonight just to make sure I put the crack pipe down before benchmarking. :D

one more thing...sound is disabled with:

command line = quake3.exe +set cd_nocd 1 +set s_initsound 0

Almost forgot that one IMPORTANT factor

Hmmn...Spidey, do you "normally frag your unsuspecting victims" with sound off? :)

Perhaps you should turn it on and give us that score instead...

OK, i was on crack. Don't know where I got the 123 number from:

32 bit full 1024x768
105
16 bit full 1024x768
139

Looks like I was mistaken MONEY:(, I believe at 1024x32 the mem bandwidth on the Geforce2 is at its max. At 16 bit the card isn't maxed out and it is processor bound at that point.

cheers!

WAIT A SECOND!!!!!!

I must have lowered my video card to default core/mem settings. 120s is correct. I'm running the Geforce2 GTS at 225/390. That proves the theory and findings of anand and other sites that it is truly mem bandwidth limited at this resolution and higher.

1024x768x32 = 121 (no sound)
1024x768x32 = 113 (with HQ sound for GOI)

Anyway it is still frickin fast, I can get somewhere near 100 FPS at 1280x1024x16. 1280 and 1024 are extememly playable on the net as the extra processing power is used for frame and header decoding/position engine. Allows me to rail GOI's eyeball at 500 yards.

Just kiddin GOI...maybe i'll see you on a server someday and I just might be YOUR unsuspecting victim.

oh yea!

After upping the core/mem to 225/390. I'm up in the 120's too. Disabling sound helps out a lot too. sweet!

Thanks spidey,
