if you check these out... something seems fishy with maxtor hdd's... good thing i got western digitals =)
im guessing it has something to do with the highpoint controller in most the cases

i have a wd 10 gig and a wd 4.1 gig.. anyone think i might have a problem with these drives running not in raid?

and what is the advantage of using the highpoint controller with single drives? is there any?

thanks

Hmm... Here's all of the problems I've had in the last week with the board and the only solution was to REPLACE THE BOARD:

This week, out of 65 boards, 6 came back because

1 had a flaky IDE Controller (not the ATA100). BIOS would see drives on the IDE controller, but would ONLY see the drives on ATA100 after the board posted.

1 had blown up Durons and WASN'T the BIOS problem (the CPUs were week 25 and 31).

1 just kept locking up over and over.

1 was just plain dead as a doornail.

1 had a dead PS/2 mouse port.

1 had an ATA100 controller that was about as fast as an MFM drive AND a bad PS/2 mouse port.

I hope this doesn't keep up! This week alone, the RMA rate on these boards went from 5% to 9%! Maybe next week none will come back. Who knows. :p

gasp!
ok, so some more ata100 problems.. a dead board, which happens.. they are probably rushing them out, which is why so many are coming out bad.. and some bad ps2 ports..
well, i guess if your getting 9% bad boards, 91 % chance of getting a good board is not too shabby... i unless you take 9% fo 1 million.. which is way too much, from a companys point of view
