Im thinking of upgrading my Abit KT333 board to either a KT400 Board(Soyo Dragon series) or one of 3 Nforce2 boards. What I am interested in mostly are the memory bandwidth scores obtained by benching with SisoftSandraI just wanna see if its worth the upgrade. My current board lacks raid so thats one excuse to upgrade help me with the other. Also I hear that you cannot use 512mb sticks of ram on the Nforce2, is this correct? Thanks in advance guys.

You can use 512Mb sticks with the nForce2. Raw SiSoft memory scores are probably not a very good means of determining real-world performance, but if that's what you want to see, here you go. For real-world performance evaluation, check AnandTech's nF2 shootout comparing nF2 against KT333 and KT400 boards.

Oh, and if you want to use traditional ATA drives for RAID, that's been a sore point with nF2. Asus A7N8X, for instance, only has a serial-ATA RAID controller, no PATA RAID.

Then again, if you want speed, what's better than an IDE RAID0...? That's right, 15000rpm Ultra160 SCSI :D and much less risk too (SCSI drives are more reliable, and you don't have two tickets in the drive-failure lottery like you would with an IDE RAID0). Keep that in mind if you want quick response more than large quantities of bulk storage. We wants it, Precious!

I would recommend either the 18Gb or 36Gb drives like so, which have the full 5-year warranties:

IBM Ultrastar "Piranha" 36Z15, 18.4 GB, Ultra160 SCA-2 LVD SCSI-3, 15,000 RPM, 3.4 ms seek, 4 MB cache, A/V Rated, 3.5" LP, 80 pin interface - 80 to 68 pin SCA adapter included, 5-year warranty. (IBM p/n: 07N6802)
