ok, please stick to system purchased from a manufacturer, not the ones you assemble yourself.
my dell inspiron 2650 has served me well, not much repairs, only 1 keyboard key broke off and i had to mail it back but service was great.
my other dell poweredge never crashed and it runs like a champ.
a dude i met in college wanted to trade me for my dell inspiron with his ibook (posted this a while back) and i decided against it. his computer is a total lemon (in my eyes), it was in the shop multiple times due to faulty close lever (what do you call that thing), keyboard and other stuff that screwed up. i'm fairly sure that he didn't misuse it, either.
i heard compaqs are pretty bad...
