ok, please stick to system purchased from a manufacturer, not the ones you assemble yourself.

my dell inspiron 2650 has served me well, not much repairs, only 1 keyboard key broke off and i had to mail it back but service was great.

my other dell poweredge never crashed and it runs like a champ.

a dude i met in college wanted to trade me for my dell inspiron with his ibook (posted this a while back) and i decided against it. his computer is a total lemon (in my eyes), it was in the shop multiple times due to faulty close lever (what do you call that thing), keyboard and other stuff that screwed up. i'm fairly sure that he didn't misuse it, either.

i heard compaqs are pretty bad...

I'd have to say the only computer lemon I've ever had would be Windows XP. Windows 98 didn't crash as much as it did.

i had a compaq with no problems, but you will run into faulty machines more and more as companies try to maximize profits. apples are nice looking and expensive but they seem to have a lot of problems, especially the Ipods

EDIT: my dad however had a compaq that was really messed up. the floppy failed like 3 times and we had to get rom updates 4 or 5 times, after that it worked ok. however since hp owns compaq now i would trust them more

I own 2 Compaqs, I reformatted the HD once I got mine (my dad left the stuff on them). Mine has been running fine ever since (gave it to my mom two years ago). And my dad's was running fine until a while ago, now it doesn't recognize the Optical drives 🙁

i bought an HP a few years back-- even though it was the top of the line at the time, it still only had about a 120 watt powersupply and everytime i would use the DVD-rom and be doing something else like surfing the web or pretty much anything, it would shut down. Really pissed me off. Not too mention it was really hard to work with because the case was so small and hard to open. Last prebuilt i bought. (except for my laptop)
