We're moving out alot of antiques and ornaments in the family, and I was wondering if any of you had any ebay tips to save on costs, or to get higher bids or anything at all.

I notice alot of ppl post the same item multiple times, doesnt this get expensive?
Cuz I assume a single multiple item auction would be cheaper.

anyway looking forward to your info

Try researching Dutch Auctions on eBay. I won a couple of those recently:

Here I won all four of the same item.

Here I bid on and won one of the five items.

Increase shipping costs to cover fees & shield the final value fee (or whatever it's called). Accept Paypal from people with verified addresses only. Spend some time and do a good description with lots of pictures.

Answer the questions with good grammar and punctuation. Use real pics, not pics from the net. And try not to make too much money off shipping, that just makes you look bad.

pay attention to the insertion fee price breaks, i.e. don't set a starting bid at $10, use 9.99 instead.
for multiple items I think it's better to list one at a time, then just relist when it gets bought.
auction ending times are pretty critical. ebay's busiest hours are sunday and monday, around 5pm pacific time.
there was an awesome thread here a while back with a ton of tips, good luck finding it with the search though.

oh and use stamps.com for a couple months. you get free postage for signing up, then $10 off for the next 2 months plus a free scale. sell the scale off and you end up with a profit. they have a cool feature where the postage value isn't printed on the label so you can charge more for postage without people complaining.

very good info.

I use stamps.com also and never have to go to the PO unless it is going international.

If using Paypal, always use some sort of tracking. People like good descriptions and fast shipping. The more pictures the better.

I get a lot of emails with lots of questions about items. Some of them are just silly and strange. But, people like getting a response.

Leave feedback for buyers too.

Always overcharge on shipping. Remember, you are out there to make profit, not to make friends.
For every 100 ebayers out there, all 100 of them are trying to rip you off.

you buy weird stuff 😕

a cooling fan and a DVD-ROM are weird?

4x 40mm fans and a SCSI DVD-ROM?

The four fans are for a pair of hard drive coolers I'm putting together.

The DVD-ROM is for watching DVDs.

What's so weird about this?

Good pictures, more than one if the item calls for it. I try not to overcharge on shipping, but do be careful not to charge too little, leave a little buffer in case you go into next weight level or need to spend $$ on packaging. Most things sell better broken up, even if it's a set to begin with, especially with big collections of things. I would offer them at the same time though, to whip someone up into wanting to own them all. Answer questions promptly.

Don't ship until you're paid. If you use PayPal, don't ship unless the address is confirmed and change your PP settings to prevent someone w/unconfirmed address from paying.

Do your research, check older completed auctions for same or similar items, look for key words that bring out more money, or certain times of day seem better for certain items. Looks at the calendar at http://www.auctionbytes.com for recommended day of the week to begin auctions on.

Try to start auctions as low as you can tolerate, usually doesn't matter where you start (except too high) if the item is at all sought after. Really high starting bids or reserves can keep auction interest low.

i will search guys.. sheesh

i just figured since so much useless conversation is passed through the hallowed halls of ATOT.. that i could tap the vast knowledge that is going thru here EVERYDAY and I'm not benefitting 😉
