After six weeks, the virus is no longer causing your symptoms (unless you have an impaired immune system--AIDS or something like that.) You've gotten a bacterial infection somewhere in your respiratory system (sinuses/lungs). Will you get better without antibiotics? Eventually. Like maybe next May. But why not just phone your doctor and ask for a prescription of Zithromax (or whatever antibiotic your doctor prefers) and feel better in 2 days? Why are you suffering over something so simple to cure?

I've had this stupid cold for six weeks and the standard remedies aren't doing anything (aspirin, liquids, cough syrup, vit. C etc). The chicken soup was yummy but not helpful, coldwise.

Help . . .

Update: went to dr. Yup, it's a cold. Dr. said that since it's been 6 weeks, it's probably a good idea to try an antibiotic. One of the rare times that I agree with dr's giving out antibiotics too much.
go out and drink yourself into oblivion

And he said it's a cold? A cold is a virus, antibiotics are not going to help.

Zicam. Its the only thing that works on the cold itself, and not just the symtoms.

I'm pretty sure the FDA was investigating Zicam's relation to anosmia not too long ago...

I cured the worst sore throat of my life (swallowing caused me to tear up) with a nice beer binge fest after a concert. Woke up the next morning and my sore throat was gone.

So the recipe would be...
14 cheap beers (preferably keystone or keystone ice <- tastes like feet if its your first beer for the night) and then pass out spread eagle on hotel bed.
