I was doing my daily trash bin hunting and there it was a JVC/NIVICO 5003 Solid State Stereo Receiver I hooked up a pair of crappy speakers (Just in case something was amiss inside as I did not want to ruin a decent pair of speakers) and I have sound from both channels W00T!!!! :):D it sounds good too Someone Else's loss I guess as there was a box from an RCA Home theater in a Box type setup (Read: BPC)

Anyway anyone know more information about this? WPC Year etc?

I guess I found it just in time before it got ruined the wood case it is in is what I call good condition (Minor gouges only one on the back where it was resting on the pavement:'()

Anyway

I've got some nice DVD racks and a table we use on our patio for gardening (repotting plants, etc) that people were throwing away. The DVD racks were fine as, the table had some stains on the wood but we just repainted the whole table top white.

My first color TV came from a dumpster. Tuner didn't work, but composite A/V inputs worked fine. I used the tuner in my VCR.

I haven't gotten anything super exciting, but I've gotten some stuff I liked. Old computers, software+licenses, plants, leaf blower, weed eater, miscellaneous stuff... The dumpster at my old office always had good stuff in it.

I grabbed some liquor boxes to use for some outdated file folders from a trash bin behind a liquor store. There was a small black box that was mixed in with the cardboard boxes. I pulled it out and it was a Dell Optiplex 755, small form factor. I brought it home and it was set up for a POS terminal. It had a Windows XP COA sticker on the back. I reinstalled XP and it activated just fine.
It's only a single core Celeron, but it has 1024MB of RAM, and it's a adequate for my gf's Excel and facebook usage.

Technically not in a dumpster yet.

Workplace was disposing of a 3 month old Sharp 27" CRT (4x3, 480p, 2005). I was given the task to "throwing" it away. Put it outside beside the dumpster for me to pick when I left work. Also the slow speed security VCR was being thrown, but I was alone this time, so it ended up being crushed. :(

Also about 50 lbs. of "expired" Ghirardelli chocolate candy/bars being thrown by CostPlus/WordMarket which I had to dive for after the employees dumping it left. I was waiting to throw my stores trash and watched them doing it. Never had the chance to get their "expired" wines, didn't want to cut myself with the broken glass.

In elementary school I had a sort-of-friend in the neighborhood who always got all sorts of stuff, and one day he had two decent mountain bikes and five skateboards set outside. All we owned were a couple of little kiddie bikes, so win for us. :awe:

I forgot about the TV, I grabbed a 32 inch tube TV from the garbage when I was in college. It worked fine for 5 years until we replaced it with a 50" plasma.

Question. Do you guys actually get into the dumpster? I've seen youtube vids of people going dumpster diving and people do. I imagine in order to be thorough you have to. If so don't you worry about needles and the like?

I always did, but you have to scout your target. There's dumpsters I wouldn't get in, and boots are a plus.

This being a drug city I can't think of too many dumpsters I'd deem completely safe. Even with boots on it's a bit of a risk. Have to say though if I saw right type of find I'd probably jump in :p Will have to hit up some near computer and electronics stores and see if I find anything. Never been. A lot of places keep their's locked though.

Back in the mid-90's in the heyday of the brick and mortar small computer stores - we used to dumpster dive at a number of places. We'd get the occasional case, power supply, whole PC, but one day we hit the motherlode. We got something like 15 486 motherboards, 12 386 motherboards, 5 or 6 whole computers, 25 40-250gb hard drives, 4 monitors, a dozen video cards (VESA stuff!), A static bag filled with memory - it filled the basement floor at my buddies house. We ended up building something like a dozen entire PC's out of the parts and sold it all on fidonet. Made over 4 grand all told for a van full of parts.

Possible ID is the Nivico 5003: (JVC brand? Maybe built by JVC and sold as Nivico?)

http://www.oaktreevintage.com/SOLD_Receivers_JVC.htm

Some googling reveals its a fairly typical low end "hi-fi" from the late 60's early 70's. Probably beats my Philips 7800 from the early 80's. I'd say about 50 WPC and its likely to be rock solid. Stuff made in that era was bulletproof.

Wow that pretty neat looks in mint condition. How much is it worth you think?

Never dumpster dive that I can recall. But I would for that.

Yeah it is pretty much mint condition (Except for one gouge on the back of the wood case (Where it was sitting on the pavementD:)

It was not actually in a dumpster, I live in an apartment and there is a fenced in area where the bigger things go that can't fit in the trash can
It's probably not worth much as I can't find alot of information on it I think it was an export model as it has a 117/240 Switch inside of it

This is the only page I can find on it other then people selling one or my posts on other forums I frequent

I found a couple of small 4 stroke engines. I found an 8 year old laptop at the time(2009), and still use it to this day for 24/7 folding. My friend and I found some computers, but they were useless, so I just kept the processors.
