I had to cough up another $120 to get the six core coffee lake 8700K because the Strix Z370i doesn't work with Kaby Lake. Dumb mistake but it's wicked fast with an intel SSD (m.2 not even nvme!)

In any case, why are my X99 boards, X399 TR4 and X299 systems so S-L-O-W to POST?

The m-itx system which is used for htpc and some i-gpu games is blazing fast to start, almost as fast as the i5 NUC it's replacing.

Do HEDT chipsets in general have slower POST times due to more checks? It's almost as slow as some servers for crying out loud! If I had a RAID card in the system it would be!

Cold boot time from power on.
Yes, once the circle starts spinning it's a few seconds to the desktop.
But from a cold power on condition, just to get to the post screen takes quite long.

so your when the board runs self tests, basically when u see the led diag display flash though sequences it is taking a long time?

What board is it? Sometimes if a board is rich in features, it will take a while for it to boot though all of that to get to post.
But it still shouldn't take a L O N G time.... as i am counting down, it takes about 5 seconds from power on to post, and then about 5 to get into windows.
