POST screen up for 30 seconds?

Whenever my win 98 boots up my post screen hangs for 30 seconds before win 98 boots up. Is this normal? It seems like a long time to me. Is there anything I can do to speed this up? (I already have my K7S5A on quick boot enabled)

Thanks

Does sound kind of long...

This might be the time your network is negotiating its' internet connection
I think I remember reading threads where people talked about boot time being reduced by
entering their IP and DNS settings (TCP/IP NIC settings) manually rather than setting them for
automatic detection.

note: Comcast just changed my connection so I HAVE to use the automatic detection (DHCP enabled)

i think its my firewire port on my audigy soundcard causing it. I uninstalled it and now it boots up quicker.

hmm, I don't seem to have that problem with my win98 installation.
perhaps you're short of free irqs!
could you post a list of your irqs??

How do I do that?
It's definatelly my firewire software that is doing it. My post is 7 seconds without it and its almost 30 seconds when I install my firewire software.

How do I find out a list of my IRQ's?

Thanks for any more help

pm's are welcome as well

my sepcs are k7s5a,512megddr, 1 cd burner, 80 gig hd, floppy, gforce 3 ti 200, audigy xgamer, onboard lan

<< How do I find out a list of my IRQ's? >>

for ease of copying & pasting your list, start>run & type msinfo32. expand hardware & click on irqs! :)

whoa, those are some irqs, videocard sharing with your soundcard is not the best of arrangements.
if you're not using your serial ports(com ports), suggest you disable them both in bios & recheck your irq spread.
have you left pci slot 1 free(next to the AGP card)??

I disabled the com ports and there is one pci slot open next to my agp port. POST still lasts 30 seconds. Any other suggestions? I noticed it takes longer than normal to shut down also after I click on shut down or restart.
or is there different firewire software i can try? I only need to transfer video from a camcorder. I don't need to network computers with it.

Thanks for all your help
