I have a Parakeet, but he doesn't talk either.

He is only 8 months old. I have had him since he was around a month and a half old.

He loves for you to sit and talk to him, hand feed him millet, etc...

For some reason he has picked up a habit where he likes to "snap/bite" your hand when you first go to touch him. He doesn't bite hard at all, and he actually acts like he is playing with you like he does his toys.

He loves to sit on your finger/hand, but he doesn't like to come out of his cage. I can actually leave the door open and he want come out. He will go to the door and look out, but never goes out of the cage.

Whats the best way to get him to where he will quit trying to bite me (or play bite me whatever it is), and for him to become more comfortable coming out of his cage?

He will turn 6 January 1st. I have another one that just turned 3. Both have been talking since 6 months.

BTW.. These birds are called either Quaker Parrots or Monk Parakeets and are native to South America. They are hearty birds and can live in very severe conditions. There is a colony of them in Hyde Park, Chicago. I've been out there snapping photos of them up in the trees when I could barely stand to take my glove off to take the picture because it was so cold out.

PS.. Thanks for the compliments. :)

Here are our 4 kids :

1. Kyutie

2. Bochie

3. Kyutip

4. Bear

Kyutie and Bear live together, while Kyutip and Bochie are inseparable.
Only Bochie is a boy bunny. So he kinda has a little harem of his own :)
He lost his eye recently due to injury and need to be taken out. But he never shown any side effect and still as happy as ever (spoiled too).
They are all spayed and neutered though.
