I got hooked on his Sunflower song from the Spiderman cartoon movie. Sometimes if a song is presented the right way, you internalize it. I don't think I would have gotten attached to it if not for the movie. Sunflower, Better Now, Circles, etc. are all good in my book! Circles is a great headphone song. It's also a great song to sing along to when your blood sugar drops because you need a snack & don't have one.

Ehh, i liked him on Hot Ones, but his music hasnt ever caught my attention. I do like Ulver's pop stuff, and Steven Wilson's pop stuff, so i've more or less opened to the genre, but, still picky apparantly.

I always felt like if there was a world-wide contest of "most punchable face" he would easily beat out the competition

When it comes to pop type stuff that I dont see myself liking, and i for whatever reason feel guilty to like, the #1 name on my list is Donny Benet. That guy is frickin amazing.

Eh it ain't nothing to be ashamed about man. He's got some decent songs that are easy to listen to. Theres lots of artists like that. Halsey, The Weekend, Puth, Zeppelin, Nirvana, ect, the list could go on forever. Why paint yourself into a corner by only listening to certain styles and genres of music that others deem acceptable? They're your ears man let them listen to what they want to.

He's a talented guy. And you know what - I've met some face tattoo rappers. Were nice enough guys that the experience helped me realize that judging face tattoo rappers just makes me seem like a crotchety old man..

huh.

I didn't know either of those songs were him..behind there, sorta...doing stuff.

I love that movie, but I will never tolerate autotune.

fuck these poseurs. Let's hear them sing and if they actually have chops.

I don't care if some "audio happiness factory" can write lyrics for them and pay some "face" to hash it out through cocaine and wiskey binges while the computer does all the work...I want someone to FUCKING SING while they are fucking swimming in coke and wiskey and heroin or whatever.

fucking do the work. Don't be some lazy no-talent ass clown that doesn't know the fucking key of C from their distended rectum.

Nearly every song you've heard in the last 20 years has been autotuned. It's both a stylistic tool, to make your voice sound cool a la Cher, but also to smooth out bumps in the audio. Like Photoshop, it's everywhere, and when it's well-done, you don't notice it.

Ah for real man I thought you were a little bit more open minded. I have to ask do you take this stance with other forms of art? Like do you take this line in the sand approach with paintings or literature or is it just musical forms of art that have to adhere to this standard you have?

I agree with zin to some extent. I dont just write off singers cuz they used auto tune tho, something I easily would've done in my younger years.

With your examples, it depends. I mean, if it's paint by numbers, or mad libs, then sure I won't be holding it in high esteem against people who've dedicated their lives to writing or art. Auto tune is kind like that, paint by numbers for singing.

That being said, I like live music where autotune isn't functional, so I definitely gain more respect for musicians that can still rock their talent without something like autotune
